“Twenty years ago, various applications were found in searching and related areas because finding similar items became much easier. This method can be integrated with other technologies and it has been extensively applied especially in big data processing,” Mirrokni stated.

Asked about the role of the Mustafa(pbuh) Prize on the development of Islamic countries, Mirrokni described it as a positive initiative since it helps to develop science in various fields of study. 

“This alone does not bring about good changes. Rather, similar initiatives need to be carried out in other countries,” Mirrokni maintained, “An advantage of the Mustafa(pbuh) Prize is that it brings the works of the selected scientists into light and makes them more known to the public, which will in turn motivate students to engage actively in their fields of study.”

Mirrokni also highlighted the importance of science communication. “The networking brought about through the Mustafa(pbuh) Prize framework makes it easier to get familiarized with the scientists. Such networking is definitely not adequate, but it is essential because science communication is a key area,” he said.

The Iranian scientist also stressed that scientific communications within Islamic countries and other countries has to grow. Such vital communication can be achieved through publishing articles and similar activities. One thing is for sure: science communication and network need to be prioritized.
