Science in 60 Seconds: Noor Student Competition Wraps Up Prize Week

The ceremony of the 6th Noor Student Competition will mark the end of the Mustafa(pbuh) Prize Week on September 9.
YJC – The call for participation in the 6th Noor Student Competition, organized by the Mustafa(pbuh) Science and Technology Foundation’s Observatory, was first announced on May 12, 2022. Students were invited to create 60-second video clips about Iran’s natural environment, including plants, animals and nature. Nearly 9,000 students have submitted their scientific short videos to the competition secretariat. Submissions were accepted via the Foundation’s official website (www.mstfdn.org) until August 22, 2025.
The Noor Student Competition is an annual international event aimed at inspiring young adults, opening up new horizons in science and technology, and nurturing young talent.
Teams of two or three students are required to prepare short videos on a unified theme. Each edition of the competition is held in commemoration of a prominent scientist from the Islamic world. The inaugural edition paid tribute to Ibn al-Haytham, focusing on the science of light and its applications. The second edition was dedicated to Professor Jackie Ying, a laureate of the 2015 Mustafa(pbuh) Prize, covering a range of fields including physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, astronomy, and interdisciplinary sciences.
The third edition commemorated Ibn al-Razzaz al-Jazari, with a focus on mechanics. The fourth, held in recognition of Omar Yaghi, a laureate of the 2015 Mustafa(pbuh) Prize, focused on materials and energy. The fifth competition was held in honor of Abu Rayhan al-Biruni, featuring a general theme on vision and optical illusions, and a special theme on building real-life models to represent mathematical concepts.
The competition has turned into an international platform with submissions arriving from around the world. In the fifth edition alone, 4,576 students from 19 countries—including Iran, South Africa, China, France, the United States, India, and Tunisia—sent in their works. Across its first five editions, a total of 7,969 projects created by 19,614 students in teams have been received.
The winners of the 6th Noor Student Competition will be honored at the closing ceremony on September 9, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., at Tehran Book Garden, coinciding with the birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad(pbuh).
